Hot Home Decor

Teals, reds, bright pinks, yellows and greens will all be wonderful paint colors this spring. Kitchens will be eye popping with vibrant color schemes (including the counters/cupboards) and metal hardware such as chrome or brass. Painting monotone stripes on the bedroom walls will also be popular. A bright, fun and funky wallpaper may also work for you, there are some great damask inspired ones that really demand attention.

Light woods will also be big. And we will be seeing more indoor/outdoor living. If your on a budget, bring in more live plants, light wood furniture or colors such as yellow or green. Place some comfortable fabric covered furniture out by the pool, and a small end table. Make your outdoor space just as inviting as the rest of your home. If you can afford it, go glass, and go big. There’s no better way to merge your outdoor living with your indoor living than glass walls, massive windows and glass doors. A nice addition to your outdoor space… a kitchen complete with fridge, dinning table, spice rack, and grill. A pool house is also another way to combine the two spaces, keep it airy, comfortable and living room relaxing.

In the garden, spruce it up with pink azaleas, yellow trillum, and painted adirondack chairs. Other amazing springtime flowers that get my vote are the harmony iris, and “snowflakes”. And, if your really creative use wooden wheelbarrows, and colorful rain boots as planters. Glass bottles and paint or coffee cans can be painted to make darling plant containers too. You can even use colored drinking glasses, or you could opt to buy some chalk board planters and let the kids (if you have children, or know any) decorate them!

Flowers aren’t just for the garden though, floral or deep blue fabrics will be great choices for bedspreads, throw pillows, and area rugs. Green fabric will also work this spring. Fabric covered headboards are fair game too, and can make for a great DIY project.

Another delightful project is painting. Rustic inspired painted furniture is ideal for any home this season. A painted, worn, wooden desk is a great piece this spring, and you can also use this look for tables and counters. Painted bookshelves, doors, and night stands are also going to be pretty hot. Glass windows on your cupboards aren’t so old and outdated, they can be very hip if you pair them with some fresh bright paint.

Reused items are wonderful and trending now more than ever. Much like the fabric headboards, you can re-purpose items, and make your own one of a kind home furnishings. You can even paint your worn out hardwood floors. White looks magnificent, but let’s be honest, most of us couldn’t keep a white painted floor clean with children and pets running around on it.

For Easter go with pink pastel table cloth’s, a bowl full of painted eggs, easter wreaths or eggshells used as planters for tiny flowers. Just make sure to leave them in the bottom half of the carton to keep them upright.

Final thought: Why spring clean when you can just redecorate!

Keeping Safe While Staying Stylish.

I don’t promote the use of force in my day to day life, however my boyfriends watching an old John Wayne movie and comparing me to a character in it because neither of us can aim. This reminded me of when I came home one night and he gave me military grade self defense spray (I carry it with me but have yet needed it), and the time he tried to teach me to shoot.

So I got to thinking, there are some very cute self defense weapons I have seen, I mean if your going to carry something, it might as well look good!

These items are here to protect and defend you. They are weapons, so make sure you know how to use them if you own them. My spray not only marks the target and causes temporary blindness, but it also cause difficulty breathing. This doesn’t always just effect the target, it can effect the users too. You don’t want to be gasping while calling 911. Just like you don’t want to rub your eyes if you have the spray on your hands.

As far as guns go, they can hurt you even if your not aiming at yourself. I know a older man who shot his son, he wasn’t aiming at him. He shot a tree and the bullet ricocheted. His kid was fine, but he has little scar from the incident. Know your bullets, what they can and can’t go through, trajectory, surface materials, and practice at a range while wearing the appropriate (and pink!) safety gear. Take a safety course. Learn what can go wrong. For instance, never shoot in small enclosed space, you may find yourself deaf if you do. Keep a firm grip, and know how to properly hold a firearm, or you could end up with a black eye or broken collar bone. Always know not only what’s beside your target but also what’s behind it. A friend of mine left her husbands hunting club, about a mile up the road the back seat window shattered. A bullet went through it, so always be aware not only of your immediate surroundings, but be mindful of what’s beyond that, and how far your discharged weapons bullet can potentially travel. Keep your weapon clean, and not loaded. Know how to take it apart, use locks, and never point unless you plan to fire. Also, learn your local laws.

These items are not toys, they are not accessories, they are meant for life threatening situations. You can cause fatal injuries or face imprisonment if you misuse them

With my quick safety pointers out of the way, here are some stylish self defense weapons for the (sane) woman looking to protect herself without being too bland.

My favorite pink gun is the Sig Sauer mosquito in pink:

My second favorite is the Beretta U22 Neos. To me this gun is very international spy. The U22 Neos with pink grips, well that’s uber hot international spy. Neos pink grips (grips only):

For stun guns, and sprays…

They have an excellent selection of popular products including pink cell phone stun guns!

Yet again, never use a weapon you don’t know everything about, know your laws. I can’t stress safety and legal protection enough. Also, if you purchase anything for self defense and use it, I’m not liable for the results. Be safe, and be sane.

Clean Your Coach In The Kitchen

The other day one of my dogs had a tummy issue, do you see where this is going? If you don’t I’ll try to be clear.

One of my not so little dogs made belly boo boo #2s. In the house. Then stepped in the #2s. Following this he jumped up and knocked my Coach signature daisy purse on the floor. Lastly, he walked on said purse with his #2 covered paws.

With this all said and done, I had to clean it. I just couldn’t bring myself to throw out hundreds of dollars over my baby’s belly boo boo poos. After all, many people wash cloth diapers, hankies and so on. Theses icky laden fabrics get reused, and don’t cause any serious health issues. I just wish I could have used bleach, Lysol or thrown the bag in the wash through a sanitize cycle!

Up until my poo paw print purse, I always prided myself on taking really good care of my things, most of them, I have had to purchase myself, with my own money that I acquired working a full 40 plus hours. Growing up my mother was far from rich, and in high school I paid for the extravagant items I wanted. I’m glad though because I learned the value of items (as well as the prices and thankfully percentages from shopping so much).

With all that pride and care though, crappy (pun intended) things still happen. This particular event I most certainly did not foresee. If I had a bottle of Coach cleaner, I could have used that, but I didn’t because I am extremely careful and never get my purses dirty. I put make up in zip-lock bags, make sure my maces lock is on and keep it in a little pocket. I never set my purses on floors or even car seats. None the less I had a cringe worthy mess to clean. Luckily, there are ways to clean designer handbags without running to a store, the cleaners or waiting for cleaner to be shipped. Its a cheap soap called dish wash detergent, and its safe for jacquard Coach bags! And then there’s also regular good old fashioned laundry detergent!

A drop of antibacterial detergent on a toothbrush does wonders for say… stuck on pasta sauce or grease spots! Just a little gentle scrubbing, a quick pat with a wet wash cloth, and next thing you know, looks like new again.

For a whole bag clean, I use laundry soap, I just pour a little in the sink, filler -up and plop in my bag. Then just take a washcloth (preferably white) and gently scrub. Rinse, and hang dry. You might be surprised just how well your bag holds water!

Before you try this, I still suggest you test this method on a super small sample piece, such as on the inside. Let’s face it, I just don’t want to get blamed because we use different detergents. Also, if you have a warranty and think you may use it, the only way you can clean your bag is with coach cleaner. Personally I don’t have a warranty. I’m a free spirit.
