Weight Loss and Clothes You adore!

While I am still keeping busy following up on my favorite charities, I am also very busy with my new weight loss plan.

It has been a few years since my last diet, and in all honesty, it was a bit of a failure. It wasn’t that I didn’t loose weight, because I did. It was a failure because it made me sick. I used to wake up and eat a couple spoonfuls of natural peanut butter, and by natural I mean it was primarily peanuts with no added sugars etc. Later in the day I would I eat either and apple or a cheese stick. That was it, all day.

I would exercise constantly. I would be become depressed if the scale didn’t say I had lost at least one pound every morning. I said thing like “I ate already” or “I’ll eat later” knowing full well I was lying to protect my secret because people worry, and their worries annoyed me. I thought I was happy, after all, I had control, I had will power. I was on my way to perfection.

You may be wondering what changed, why I bumbed up my calories and carbs knowing I would gain weight. The answer is simple, I was sick. I would faint, I was in the ER at least once a week getting two to three bags of fluid pumped in me, my heartbeat was not normal, and I could even feel my pulse in my ankles while I tried in vain to fall asleep. I was angry that I wasn’t loosing three pounds a day, and became annoyed when someone offered me food, even a few bites of celery. I finally ran out of energy.

I decided, if I continued, I was going to be in jeopardy, so I added salads for lunch, and ate small meals instead of just an apple or cheese stick. I even added sugar and cream in my morning coffee! I did this for months. I finally ate pizza in front of my then new boyfriend because I didn’t want him to think I was a total weirdo. It was that pizza that made me throw all that hard work out the window. It was sooo good! And since then, I have ate whatever, whenever, I wanted.

Sounds like a good story, but I have a love for chocolate that isn’t healthy, I love cake. I like pasta, McDonalds daily doubles, and their hot fudge sundaes. I like KFC… a lot. So now I have become a bit of a blob. But I’m a happy blob.

Its taken me a while to feel comfortable enough to diet again. I didn’t want to go back to my lack of food addiction. I didn’t want to have to lie again and feel alone hiding my “so called” problem, because for me, it never really was a problem. But, I have come to a point where I don’t fear relapse. I’m okay with not being perfect. Though, after seeing my old clothes, I have decided they are far too cute to sit folded in a box.

That brings us to now, my first diet in years. I am happy to say, I am watching my calories, carbs, fats, sugars, fiber and protein. My addiction isn’t chocolate, it isn’t soley control or perfection. My addiction is healthy management of my intake, its balance. Thought I may still have an addictive personality, for the first time in a long time, I can say its the healthiest addiction I could ask for. I was actually slightly concerned I only had seven to eight-hundred calories a couple days this week because I know my body burns about five-hundred just sleeping.

I’m writing this not to brag that I’m getting healthy, but to tell other people its okay not be perfect and your not alone. No matter if you struggle because you have some sort of eating disorder and are feeling drained by it, or if you need to shed some pounds for health reasons. I have been on both sides of the weight coin, and so far, making good choices feels the best!

If you under eat, know your body will be happy its getting feed, know its okay to gain a few pounds, because real people are not skeletal, airbrushed and photo-shopped photos are. Plus, in studies, men tend to prefer woman around a size twelve, not six! Know its okay to eat a few chocolate chips, or visit your doctor with your health concerns if your having dizzy spells, dry skin or hair loss. Its okay to be normal, and you don’t need to give up control to give up a concerning disorder.

If you struggle to stay focused on a diet, get inspiration! Mine was my old clothes, if you don’t adore them, then think of them as money wasted if you don’t wear them! Or, if you don’t have any old smaller sized clothing, do what I used to, buy some! Every time you drop a size, get a new wardrobe! And be happy even if you don’t always hit your weight loss goals, there’s always tomorrow! It really isn’t the end of the world if you only lose one pound in a week, because your one pound closer to success! A whole pound! If you ever saw a pound of fat, you would realize, it took effort to shed it!

Some staples in my healthy diet are; Quaker Weight Control Oatmeal
Grilled Chicken
Baked Fish
Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt
Fruit and Low Fat Yogurt Cups
Salads with Lean Hamburger, shredded Cheese, and Taco Seasoning!
I also eat;
Muller Dark Chocolate and Fruit Greek Yogurt (great for a sweet tooth crave)
Turkey Chili with beans
Baked Beans
Whole Wheat and Veggie Puree Pastas
Chunky Veggie Pasta Sauce
Whole Grain Sandwich Thins
Chilli with hot sauce
Turkey Bologna
Low Fat Pork and Turkey Hot dogs
Peanut Butter
Ranch Dressing (in moderation)
Carmel (a couple spoonfuls with apple slices makes a great sweet tooth treat every now and again)
Flavored Sparkling Water
Powerade Zero
Gatorade Low Cal
And lots of water!

To close, here are some stretches/exercises that I enjoy and maybe you will too! (Ps. Make sure you warm up, cool down and stretch!) Bridge opposite arm leg reach, sit ups, girly push ups, curls, snow angels, stair climbing, squats, planks, chest press, toe points, arm and ankle circles, overhead reach, leg lifts, eleves, walking (I prefer hills to help slim down my hips), etc.

The exercises above are fairly simple. And, as an added bonus, if you mix and match them, it keeps it interesting and fun, and as an added bonus, you target multiple areas such as your chest, tush, legs, hips, shoulders and stomach!

Hope this serves as some hope or inspiration.

Fathers Day!

Happy Fathers Day! Here I have some last minute gift ideas for dad…

If your dad adores a certain sports teams, go with team items such as key chains, mugs, team jerseys, license plate holders, photo frames (add a photo of the two of you), throws or whatever else he may he like! Go Ravens, Dolphins, Bull Dogs, Bruins, Red Sox, Yankees, Cowboys, Blackhawks, Gators, or whatever sports team he cheers for!

Next up… sports equipment. Maybe he has a great golf swing but could use a new driver, and you can never have too many golf balls! You even can get them monogrammed with his initials! If he’s not into golf maybe he likes tennis, and needs his racquet stringed. Or maybe hes mentioned he wants to toss a ball around with the grandkids. Get him a glove, baseball and bring the kids by for some outdoor fun! You could even go the extra mile and fire up the grill while they play catch.

While I’m still on sports, get tickets to take him to a game, or set it up the two of you, or the whole family can see a pee wee game some day, if he can bear to watch children play (some dads just can’t suffer through that many fouls, but hey, some have a blast watching kids learn sports!).

If your dad has a sweet tooth opt for his favorite candy. Some dads like Swedish Fish, some Lindt chocolates, while others prefer chocolate covered banana chips or chocolate covered raisins. Make up a gift bag to get him through those candy cravings!

Two words… gift cards. JC Penny, Starbucks, Auto Zone, Amazon or any other places you know he loves to shop/dine at!

Other good gift ideas are a watch, or tie. These are great if dad works as a CEO, lawyer, etc. Music is another great gift, buy a CD for his daily commute, or burn one from songs you downloaded for the special day.

You can also get a subscription to ESPN, or his favorite magazine. If he’s not into sports or reading, offer up a Prime account from Amazon, or a subscription to Netflix! Movies are perfect for the movie buff dads, but if he’s not into tech, consider a dvd or movie tickets. Don’t forget the popcorn!

If he’s handy, tools are a sure fire win. There’s no such thing as too many screw drivers! And hey, didn’t he need a new power drill!

You can even bring his old chainsaw into the shop for tooth repairs. Repairing what he already has can be fairly inexpensive, and saves dad the hassle of doing it. So take his mower blades in to be sharpened, or if likes to do this stuff himself, offer to help fix that cord on old mower with him!
Quality bonding time is great motivation! And it gets your mom off his back!

But then again, maybe its a old car he wants restored and not a mower, no worries, print out a faux coupon for 1 free day of restoration help. Or if dads not into restoring cars, get his new baby a full detail! If you cant afford it, take it to the local car wash and make it a DIY (if he let’s you drive it!).

If you have a funny pet dad in your life, give him a gag gift, a squeak toy works great! Or make a card from the bunny, dog or cats!

Lastly if you have money issues and your dads been helping you foot your bills, he’ll understand that you can’t get an expensive gift. And, he’ll be touched that you popped in, thanked him for all the support and gave him a warm hug.

Parenting Rant

Really glad my mother threw out my toys if I didn’t pick them up, grounded me, and made me return the candy I stole. Glad she told me no and glad my grandmother beat my butt when I didn’t sit on the couch properly. Thankful she pulled my ear, smacked me with her hairbrush and had a paint stick with my name on it. It wasn’t child abuse, they didn’t beat me for the heck of it, they were teaching me life lessons.

If it wasn’t for my mother making me return the candy, I would be a thief, and probably in jail, if she didn’t throw away my toys, I wouldn’t value and take care of what I have. If my grandmother didn’t smack me for not sitting “properly”, I would never have learned to sit like a lady and portray confidence while doing so. If she didn’t smack me with her brush, I would be a lot less inclined to sit under a hot hair dryer to get a perm and more likely to whine about every little hair pull. Without that paint stick and being grounded I would have grown up to believe that the world revolved around me and it would have been a much harder lesson to learn as an adult.

I’m posting this because I’m sick of seeing young woman behave like trollops, kids throwing violent fits when someone tells them no. I’m feed up with parents not having control. As hard as it for some parents to believe, when your child’s screaming in the store, running into people with shopping carts and swearing at you, I don’t think its cute. I don’t find it to be funny, or charming in ANY way. I find that type of behavior to be alarming.

By giving your children whatever they want and never telling them no, your hurting them. Your not being nice to other people, your not being nice to your child, and your not helping yourself, because it will only get worse. Worse for those of us who have to put up with your child in public, more crushing for the child when they grow up and reality hits like a boulder, and as a parent, you’ll be left to always pick up the pieces.

So I am asking parents to please, please, set boundaries. Enforce them, even if you don’t believe in spanking, you can follow through with time outs, etc. Children, even small ones, are not stupid, most can comprehend right from wrong, and understand the concept of repercussions. Nothing bothers me more than a parent that’s just lazy, always “the friend” or afraid of their child.

It saddens me to see the way some of these kids end up, dropping out, pregnant, on the streets, on drugs. These are kids that will have to learn some very tough life lessons, and too many will have to struggle to make a better life for themselves. I think if they had more guidance and discipline, they may have had more confidence, greater opportunities, and brighter futures.

Fat People… And An Oscar Dress Issue.

Okay, so some of you already heard that Melissa McCarthy (played in Heat, Identity Thief, The Hangover Part III, Gilmore Girls, etc.) was turned down by a number of designers when she asked to have an Oscar dress made. Though, I do need to state that Mark Zunino is reported to have sent her a couple sketches and was eager to dress the actress for the occasion.

Now with that being said, fashion, especially high end fashion, has always been a skinny girls world, even off the rack designer clothes don’t typically cater to “plus size” woman, and I personally don’t have a problem with that. Do I think designer clothes need to run a little larger? Yes. By a size or two, but I also don’t think that every article should run larger, some just look awful in larger sizes, point blank. Am I fat hater? No, defiantly not, weight has always been an issue for me, so I most certainly can not judge. I have never been a 0, nor will I ever be, I have never even been 6, nor will I ever be, but the truth is, there are certain dresses that us fat chicks just simply can not pull off.

Do I think a handful of designers should have told her no? Most certainly not. If your a talented designer, you can create dresses that look fabulous on larger woman. If your work only looks good skinny gals, your not very good at your job. And, I think your a closed minded if you turn someone down just for having a higher BMI than your used to. I’m not asking for every designer to promote cellulite and fat rolls, though it would be nice to see more cover a range of healthy weights on the runway.

Hollywood is tough enough, you don’t need them criticizing your weight, viewers critiquing your body and designers telling you your too fat for them to make you a dress. Wendy Williams (known for The Wendy Show and being an on air personality) stated that she too has had issues with designers because she doesn’t conform to their ideal measurements. I believe her term was husky, hefty? Either way, as a designer, you run a business, you can turn people down, but its still a business, its not personal, so please push aside your skinny girl ideals when it comes to these events. These woman are not asking to own the runway, be front and center on swimsuit magazines, and become spokes people for designers, they are simply asking for a dress. One custom dress.

But hey, Melissa rocked her off the rack dress (Marina Rinaldi), looking like a well fed GODDESS with cherub cheeks at the 2012 Oscars. And, I feel like those designers are getting what they deserve by Wendy and Melissa not name dropping, congrats gals on not giving them any more exposure! They obviously don’t need it. And good luck to Melissa’s own fashion line! Can’t wait to see it, and I can’t wait to see what sizes she will cover! Who knows, maybe I’ll be wearing her in the future!

Time, isnt on my side.

It feels like I have been sooo busy! This weekend I got to take a break from the monotony of daily life and head to a cookout, where we, like many other americans, watched fireworks, pet the neighbors dog, and relaxed. Only, to get back to the grind though the next day.

I feel as if I have totally disregarded my commitment to this blog though, and honestly can not promise another post. So, just a heads up, please don’t hold your breath. Someday I would greatly like to get back on track, finish the dictionary, make a post about how to properly wash clothes, give tips on how to keep jeans looking like new for years. Post about the cutest hunting fashion just in case you date a redneck with a large truck, or maybe ridding apparel in case your seeing a country boy who lives on a horse farm, maybe even post about my favorite horses (Shire, percherons, falabella, black forest and cleveland bays are on the top of that list!) Or the hottest show saddles!

But enough open air talk, I need to get ready to go, I have to go shopping (the boring kind, baking supplies and household items) and get my sometimes charming boyfriend motivated for a long night of travel, and keeping up appearances.

Happy Mothers Day!

A little late, but I am still fairly busy! I just wanted to wish all the great moms who put the work in (and it is work!) A Happy Mothers Day! I greatly appreciate the mothers who put the effort in to teach their children right from wrong, the ones who sacrifice a night out or new shoes. Here’s to the moms that teach their kids about honesty, and respect. The Moms that watch over and protect their children. Not every mom is a super mom, but as long as you try your best, here’s to you! Hope you all had a day filled with sleeping babies, and well behaved kids! Breakfast in bed, flowers and gifts! Maybe even a trip to the spa 😉

Busy Bee!

I know it has been a while, but I have been super busy with my boyfriends family, learning to shoot, and working on a charity. At some point I will be traveling for a bit, and starting and overseeing a local charity, which I will post on here, because it will be funded via online donations.

First let’s talk shooting really quick, today I hit my first can! It was only a pump bb riffle that I used, but I have improved greatly from the last time when I was about off from my target. I think when I can finally hit a quarter repeatedly, and a moving frisbee, than I can move on to .22’s. Guns make nervous, even though we have multiple riffles, revolvers etc. in the house. I always ask, “Will it ricochet?” “Is the safety on?” “Is it loaded?” “Are you sure?!” Yeah, I saw A Christmas Story when I was a kid.

Another cool thing that I did was play “football” with my dogs today. They have a NERF squeak football that they adore, and so do I! Why do I like it so much? Its lasted! My pitbulls are notorious chewers, they destroy tennis balls in seconds, so when you find I ball that last a few weeks, I’m thankful.

Speaking of weeks I will heading up north for my birthday, where I will spend some time with friends, and get some items from storage because I couldn’t do it this month. So hello never worn shoes, my gaming pc and other items that I have seriously missed since down grading my lifestyle and moving to Maryland.

It will be the first time back up there since my grandmother died, and I am still missing the conversations we had and the advice and support she gave.

Lastly, as I mentioned I will be in charge of a local personal charity (not deductible) to help raise money for safe housing, etc. for an couple individuals. I will post a link when I get around to making the page. If you would be interested in donating, great! If not, I ask you still help me out by spreading the word and asking your friends, family, and co workers to donate and or share the link.

Thanks for reading!

My Grandmother recently died, and it has kept me a bit distracted. We were very close, but since moving to Maryland, I really didn’t get to see her. At first there was a bit of guilt, but she was wise and I would like to think, that she would understand how life can get in the way. Not saying its right or wrong, but it happens regardless.

I missed the funeral, but may need to go up next month. Its hard to get back, its expensive, we have the dogs, our neighborhood could be nicer, meaning I wouldn’t stress so much leaving our flat screen, game consoles and so on unattended for long periods of time.

But you do what you have to, and in the end I have no regrets. She knew even with the age gap she was one of my closest friends, confidant, and one of the few people I respected.

Hopefully I can console my family in the upcoming months, and our lives will get back on track. But as for now, I’ll be spending less time online and more time keeping in touch with scattered aunts and cousins.

Nail Polish And Art

Thanks for still visiting the site even though I haven’t been able to post for a while. I haven’t even had the chance to buy paint! So needles to say my stairs still look spring horrid.

I did see on twitter though that natural nails were the way to go, celebrities are opting for no polish. I however, adore polish!

Here are a few hand painted tutorials straight from youtube that I have personally used when I couldn’t go to the salon. In fact, I did cherry blossoms this week! If you aren’t very good at hand painting though you can always just grab some gems and decals, they are a quick and easy!

On the other hand (no pun intended) if you are more advanced, just google images. I find google images to be sooo time saving!

Also remember if you don’t have the tools a lot of the time you can use household items such as toothpicks, make up sponges, nail art pens, etc.

Now here are a few pretty good Youtube nail art tutorials;

Cherry Blossoms-

Cosmic Nail Art-

Newspaper Clippings-

Sexy Lace-

Pirate Skulls-

And get creative, use an online source but change up the colors or add some gems. The possibilities are endless!

As the seasons change I find myself in need of different scenery, so it is time to redecorate. This winter I had lots of blue on the bed, black and grey towels, but now its about that time for flowers and not snow. Okay, okay, so maybe I’m rushing spring a bit! But I’m tired of the chilly weather, I want ballet flats and spring air already!

With the lighter feel in the air, I’ll crave lighter brighter colors, and thinner fabrics. I have already cut my hair, now I just need to dye it, chances are I’ll simply pull out the strawberry blonde highlights I already have, make them pop. I’ll add more color into my wardrobe, more skirts and some capris for nice days.

As for my living space, I have been busy picking out paint in my spare time, not that I have had much. But I have chosen to use a teal and chartreuse. Behr’s Mermaid Treasure and Hidden Meadow are good contenders. I’ll paint the stairs and get rid of the white risers and dark wood treads that I have looked since I moved in.

Speaking of dark wood, I know light will be in, but I really like Lamton’s Princeton Black laminate. It would look great in my bedroom, easy to clean, and only around 50 cents. The best part, for me, is that I can do it myself. As a slight control freak, I enjoying doing things myself, that way I know whatever it is, will get done the way I want.

A good example of getting what I want and how I want would be the stair handrail. I know I want white, but if I were to send my boyfriend into the store he would grab any white, and I would be angry he didn’t get the whitest white they have, because I want white and not almost white. I am fond Glidden’s Dove White, so chances are, that’s the one I’ll grab. Not Arctic White or Antique White, but Dove White.

Once I have all the painting done, hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I start picking out other tidbits to swap out or redo. Maybe paint the unused computer desk, update it. Or, get new blinds, possibly in tan instead of the brown that’s currently hanging.

I find when I get into spring cleaning mode, that’s the best time to swap out items. Might as well sweep up paint chips while in the mood!

Hot Home Decor

Teals, reds, bright pinks, yellows and greens will all be wonderful paint colors this spring. Kitchens will be eye popping with vibrant color schemes (including the counters/cupboards) and metal hardware such as chrome or brass. Painting monotone stripes on the bedroom walls will also be popular. A bright, fun and funky wallpaper may also work for you, there are some great damask inspired ones that really demand attention.

Light woods will also be big. And we will be seeing more indoor/outdoor living. If your on a budget, bring in more live plants, light wood furniture or colors such as yellow or green. Place some comfortable fabric covered furniture out by the pool, and a small end table. Make your outdoor space just as inviting as the rest of your home. If you can afford it, go glass, and go big. There’s no better way to merge your outdoor living with your indoor living than glass walls, massive windows and glass doors. A nice addition to your outdoor space… a kitchen complete with fridge, dinning table, spice rack, and grill. A pool house is also another way to combine the two spaces, keep it airy, comfortable and living room relaxing.

In the garden, spruce it up with pink azaleas, yellow trillum, and painted adirondack chairs. Other amazing springtime flowers that get my vote are the harmony iris, and “snowflakes”. And, if your really creative use wooden wheelbarrows, and colorful rain boots as planters. Glass bottles and paint or coffee cans can be painted to make darling plant containers too. You can even use colored drinking glasses, or you could opt to buy some chalk board planters and let the kids (if you have children, or know any) decorate them!

Flowers aren’t just for the garden though, floral or deep blue fabrics will be great choices for bedspreads, throw pillows, and area rugs. Green fabric will also work this spring. Fabric covered headboards are fair game too, and can make for a great DIY project.

Another delightful project is painting. Rustic inspired painted furniture is ideal for any home this season. A painted, worn, wooden desk is a great piece this spring, and you can also use this look for tables and counters. Painted bookshelves, doors, and night stands are also going to be pretty hot. Glass windows on your cupboards aren’t so old and outdated, they can be very hip if you pair them with some fresh bright paint.

Reused items are wonderful and trending now more than ever. Much like the fabric headboards, you can re-purpose items, and make your own one of a kind home furnishings. You can even paint your worn out hardwood floors. White looks magnificent, but let’s be honest, most of us couldn’t keep a white painted floor clean with children and pets running around on it.

For Easter go with pink pastel table cloth’s, a bowl full of painted eggs, easter wreaths or eggshells used as planters for tiny flowers. Just make sure to leave them in the bottom half of the carton to keep them upright.

Final thought: Why spring clean when you can just redecorate!

Keeping Safe While Staying Stylish.

I don’t promote the use of force in my day to day life, however my boyfriends watching an old John Wayne movie and comparing me to a character in it because neither of us can aim. This reminded me of when I came home one night and he gave me military grade self defense spray (I carry it with me but have yet needed it), and the time he tried to teach me to shoot.

So I got to thinking, there are some very cute self defense weapons I have seen, I mean if your going to carry something, it might as well look good!

These items are here to protect and defend you. They are weapons, so make sure you know how to use them if you own them. My spray not only marks the target and causes temporary blindness, but it also cause difficulty breathing. This doesn’t always just effect the target, it can effect the users too. You don’t want to be gasping while calling 911. Just like you don’t want to rub your eyes if you have the spray on your hands.

As far as guns go, they can hurt you even if your not aiming at yourself. I know a older man who shot his son, he wasn’t aiming at him. He shot a tree and the bullet ricocheted. His kid was fine, but he has little scar from the incident. Know your bullets, what they can and can’t go through, trajectory, surface materials, and practice at a range while wearing the appropriate (and pink!) safety gear. Take a safety course. Learn what can go wrong. For instance, never shoot in small enclosed space, you may find yourself deaf if you do. Keep a firm grip, and know how to properly hold a firearm, or you could end up with a black eye or broken collar bone. Always know not only what’s beside your target but also what’s behind it. A friend of mine left her husbands hunting club, about a mile up the road the back seat window shattered. A bullet went through it, so always be aware not only of your immediate surroundings, but be mindful of what’s beyond that, and how far your discharged weapons bullet can potentially travel. Keep your weapon clean, and not loaded. Know how to take it apart, use locks, and never point unless you plan to fire. Also, learn your local laws.

These items are not toys, they are not accessories, they are meant for life threatening situations. You can cause fatal injuries or face imprisonment if you misuse them

With my quick safety pointers out of the way, here are some stylish self defense weapons for the (sane) woman looking to protect herself without being too bland.

My favorite pink gun is the Sig Sauer mosquito in pink:

My second favorite is the Beretta U22 Neos. To me this gun is very international spy. The U22 Neos with pink grips, well that’s uber hot international spy. Neos pink grips (grips only):

For stun guns, and sprays…

They have an excellent selection of popular products including pink cell phone stun guns!

Yet again, never use a weapon you don’t know everything about, know your laws. I can’t stress safety and legal protection enough. Also, if you purchase anything for self defense and use it, I’m not liable for the results. Be safe, and be sane.

Clean Your Coach In The Kitchen

The other day one of my dogs had a tummy issue, do you see where this is going? If you don’t I’ll try to be clear.

One of my not so little dogs made belly boo boo #2s. In the house. Then stepped in the #2s. Following this he jumped up and knocked my Coach signature daisy purse on the floor. Lastly, he walked on said purse with his #2 covered paws.

With this all said and done, I had to clean it. I just couldn’t bring myself to throw out hundreds of dollars over my baby’s belly boo boo poos. After all, many people wash cloth diapers, hankies and so on. Theses icky laden fabrics get reused, and don’t cause any serious health issues. I just wish I could have used bleach, Lysol or thrown the bag in the wash through a sanitize cycle!

Up until my poo paw print purse, I always prided myself on taking really good care of my things, most of them, I have had to purchase myself, with my own money that I acquired working a full 40 plus hours. Growing up my mother was far from rich, and in high school I paid for the extravagant items I wanted. I’m glad though because I learned the value of items (as well as the prices and thankfully percentages from shopping so much).

With all that pride and care though, crappy (pun intended) things still happen. This particular event I most certainly did not foresee. If I had a bottle of Coach cleaner, I could have used that, but I didn’t because I am extremely careful and never get my purses dirty. I put make up in zip-lock bags, make sure my maces lock is on and keep it in a little pocket. I never set my purses on floors or even car seats. None the less I had a cringe worthy mess to clean. Luckily, there are ways to clean designer handbags without running to a store, the cleaners or waiting for cleaner to be shipped. Its a cheap soap called dish wash detergent, and its safe for jacquard Coach bags! And then there’s also regular good old fashioned laundry detergent!

A drop of antibacterial detergent on a toothbrush does wonders for say… stuck on pasta sauce or grease spots! Just a little gentle scrubbing, a quick pat with a wet wash cloth, and next thing you know, looks like new again.

For a whole bag clean, I use laundry soap, I just pour a little in the sink, filler -up and plop in my bag. Then just take a washcloth (preferably white) and gently scrub. Rinse, and hang dry. You might be surprised just how well your bag holds water!

Before you try this, I still suggest you test this method on a super small sample piece, such as on the inside. Let’s face it, I just don’t want to get blamed because we use different detergents. Also, if you have a warranty and think you may use it, the only way you can clean your bag is with coach cleaner. Personally I don’t have a warranty. I’m a free spirit.

Gone To The Dogs.

You love your fluffy pal and being fashionable, what’s a girl to do? Read this and then go shopping of course!

Purse sized dogs will always be in style, pretty much have been since the victorian era. But what about larger breeds such as retrievers? I feel like we see many dogs like Tinkerbell, but not so many Marleys. Sure travel is easier with a poodle sized dog, toy breeds have tons of fabulous fashions to choose from and are small enough to hold up for a selfie photo op. So the question still remains, can you be super fashionable with a bigger breed? I mean you can’t dress them! Wait a minute… You can!

My current dogs are both around 65 pounds, and finding clothes for them is a hard enough, but cute clothes, a nightmare! And they shed! What is easy though, is that dog apparel seems to keep that fur on them and off me and my clothes. And, I like that cute dresses are just that, cute. Plus parka of course keeps them warm in the winter and raincoats keep them dry and not smelling like, well… wet dogs. There are a number of sites out there that offer a fairly wide array of pet products, and listed are a few of my top choices for wearable products, including a dress big enough to fit my chunky girl.

Just a helpful hint, its much easier for me to buy pet clothes at the shop instead of online because my female dog has lots of junk in her trunk (and everywhere else) and I find some XXL’s to be too big or too small for her despite general size charts. Its works better if I can view them, pull them a little, and imagine her fitting in it. Its like when I get them stretchy christmas collars with bells, I have to say, will this fit over my head? If not, it won’t fit over theirs.

Now, without further ado, spring apparel for your pet, that is just as adorable as your pet!

Cotton Wine and Many Thanks.

Just wanted to thank the people that have liked my posts, and viewed my page thus far.

I also set up a twitter and had a band called Cotton Wine follow me. I had never heard of them so I decided to check them out on Youtube before following back. I was blown away because in all honesty I wasn’t expecting much. They are great though, and I suggest you look them up on Youtube because they offer up a wonderful sound. I hope you enjoy!

My Lack Of Fashion Week?

You see Fashion week everywhere! As in all over the world and all over the tv. It seems whatever country is hosting fashion week, that’s what’s on the that country’s televisions. You also see it in print and on the web.

As much I love fashion shows, there’s just too much to cover in one blog post and there’s just too much already out there as it happens. My boyfriend just said to me “Did you hear that Sarah Jessica Parker Chick will be at her store in New York, bet you wanna go.” And though I would love to see the Carrie shoes first hand and have SJP ring me up, I have heard about her new shoes a hundred times. And seen them on the web, read about how she name the collection Carrie and so on. Even adoring Carrie Bradshaw, SJP and some of the shoes from her I have seen, I get it already! She has new shoes and a deal with Nordstrom’s!

I can’t spend time covering something I don’t like. To me its fruitless. I would much rather tell you what I like, what I look forward to and give my personal opinions than just “Carrie” on about what the media tells me to like. That’s why I made the Spring Into Spring post. I offer up my favorites, instead of just throwing everything into a post, even items none of us will ever wear!

Take The Blonds bright yellow tweety bird swimsuit get up thing, the only people that would even be willing to rock that would be Miley (twerk in that tweet!) or Lady Gaga. I sure as hell wouldn’t wear it if given the chance. I might say “I need to add some canary yellow to my wardrobe” ” I need to be a bit more playful”, but I most certainly will not say “I want that!”

There have been some great pieces on the runway, mainly the shoes (I’m kind of a shoe nut) and most of the more eccentric looks are exquisite in an artful sort of way. But, the fact is, unless your into the beauty and art of high fashion, you get numb to things like fashion week, and most woman enjoy the idea of high fashion but just aren’t into it enough to spend time anticipating every article of clothing.

I just figured it made more sense, for me, to skip the play by play.

Real woman, real inspiration, real wardrobes. -Couture Vogue

My Valentines Day

My Valentines Day so far has been spent in bed, not because I’m being romantic (Two dogs and Happy Bunny PJs just don’t make men want to bust out satin boxers and sexy music), but because I just can’t shake being sick. My voice is so bad my boyfriend calls me Marge Simpson. Which, is kind of funny. What’s not funny is that while coughing I felt a sharp pain in my lower back days ago and it visits every time I move quickly, couch, etc. Sleeping has become a chore. I may be repeating myself, but I can’t recall because it seems my sickness has left me with the memory of many grandparents. The hacking, runny nose, lack of mobility, and old lady forgetfulness… not very romantic, at all.

With all this time spent in bed with my cold chills and gross sweat, I have lots of free time, so long as I don’t have to move around too much that is. Blog though, that I can do! In fact, that’s really all I can do. So much for making today a little special! The Truth about Valentines kind of comforts me though. Valentines Day wasn’t originally hearts and cards. It wasn’t something many people now would have viewed as romantic. Years ago it was violence, not gifts being given. Knowing this (just check History.com) makes me feel a little better about not celebrating.

So what were my plans? We tried to think of something we could do on both our budgets that would allow us to let each other know we’re appreciated. Something we don’t do everyday, but we couldn’t think of anything, so I suggested we just get a red box movie, chinese, some chocolate and spend the night in with our dogs. This is a fairly typical night, the only thing special is that there would be a tad more romance in the air due to the holiday. My boyfriend told me this morning he had planned on making a huge heart in the snow (if there was snow, and there is!) on the lawn that can be seen from our bedroom window. As sweet as the idea was, we both got sick. He doesn’t feel like walking through a foot of snow, and I don’t feel like cleaning up the puddles he would track in.

So red box, chocolate and chinese? I say nay. No one wants to leave the house. Cuddles maybe? Not with my back. Plus, he told me the other day while we tried “I just can’t stand you coughing next to me.” Nice unconditional love, huh? Oh well, there are plenty of days that we can celebrate our awkward relationship on. After all, romance isn’t about what you do, its about how you feel, those special moments of bonding, bliss and adoration. Its about genuinely caring, and just because hugs.

Hope you all have a Happy Valentines!

Ps. If you have the single blues, just read up on the history of V day with single besties, its pretty good anti-romance material. One time my girlfriends and I stayed in and watched horror movies, ate chocolate and drank wine. We had a blast talking about how dumb the characters were and after a while the wine put us in pretty good moods! We changed from narcissistic snobs to drunk chicks that laughed at anything and yelled stuff like “Woohoo”!

The Average Gal and Peep Chic?

Some people think that if you want to be on the cutting edge of fashion, you need to have tons of money. So not true. If you saw my spring 2014 blog, you should know that, airy open shoes will be in soon enough. So what’s peep chic? Well, the simple answer… Payless peep toe shoes, and they are under $50.00! Still can’t see spending that much? Payless has some for around $20.00.

Being fashionable isn’t solely about buying only high end designer, its about YOU! So don’t get bummed if you can’t afford a pair of black and gold Zanotti peep-toe heeled booties, because you may find a very similar pair at Target for $20.00!

You should never live solely by designer clothing, use the items on the runway as a guideline, a muse to inspire you. Its much better to do your own thing than be a copy cat. I detest when people copy my style, I love however, when I can be apart of creating something unique and beautiful. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of labels, Coach, Dior, etc. But, I buy what I like. For example, I adore 4 inch T- Strap heels, they make my feet look freaking marvelous! My fav pair of T- Straps were only $30.00, and go great with my daisy signature purse! They would look fantastic with almost any purse though!

You can mix and match a more haute couture piece with something you bought at GoodWill, its okay to be frugal if you need too! And, stores that sell vintage are great. Buying from a Salvation Army store, in my opinion, well, thats you doing your part to recycle and breathe new life into a old item! I must confess, used items freak me out, but I have friends that love, LOVE used clothing. And, I support them spending $2.00 on a cute pre owned shirt. Overall, moral of this blog… don’t spend more then you can afford.

A decent example: I have lovely gowns that I will never wear again (I bought 3 just for prom one year with matching shoes). Let me tell ya, I can’t fit in the dresses properly now, and have no desire to have them tailored. The shoes got worn out, and the all the amethyst jewelry I bought for one gown… stolen.

Looking back, I was a huge spendthrift, it was an addition, one that cost me a fortune. I learned to think before I buy, because there have been times, I wished I had that money. I recall once, when I dropped a ton on new designer clothes I didn’t need, the car broke down. I was left stranded and had to call for a ride, because I knew I couldn’t cover taxi fare.

Now, instead of just grabbing and paying, I check the price tag, and ask myself, how much do I want this, and most importantly, do I NEED this. So hop on the BOGO train, have fun, and don’t become distressed trying to impress “The Jones”. For someone else, you could already be “The Jones”.

Most of us need to save for emergencies, never be ashamed of that. Embrace it. It will not only save you cash, but it will save you from future headaches as well.

Valentines Made Quick And Easy!

I just wanted to throw out some last minute ideas for all you procrastinators.

*Got a chocolate lover on your hands? Give Godiva! Godiva is one of my all time favorite chocolatiers. My second choice would be Lindt truffles, and they can be found just about anywhere nowadays, so no need to worry about shipping. Psst… While your grabbing a box for whomever, grab one for me too!

*Want to do something special for single gal pals? I give flowers, I also add balloons or a small candy bar. And, I always make sure they are their favorite types of flowers and/or their favorite colors, luckily, ribbons make for a great splash of color.

*Tickets. Movies make good gifts when you are unclear regarding what a persons preferences are when it comes to Valentines gift getting. Like for when you know he hates sweets, but loves action flicks.

*Mix tapes are so romantic, if your valentine loves personalized and crafty, this is perfect, and it doesn’t take very long to download a few songs.

*Romantic night in. A bottle of wine and a couple candles can go along way! For romance I normally suggest a blush, but if your eating chocolate, this might be too sweet for you.

* Jewelry, just make sure its not going to tarnish. Nothing says cheap like a green finger. Also, make sure its a metal your valentine will wear. Not sure of ring size? Skip it and get a necklace. Pearls make for good gifts too, so don’t just get stuck on diamonds.

*Got a kid? Stuffed animals are all around!

*Pets? Doggy cookies are a nice way to say “I love you” or any gift really will make them happy! Sweet simplicity.

What about budgets? Its simple, get less pricey chocolates, or smaller quantities. Carnations are only a couple bucks and you can swap nice wine for boxed if you must. I don’t suggest it, but then again, I, myself, won’t turn my nose up if offered boxed zinfandel.

Spring 2014 In A Nutshell.

Let me start off by saying, my look today is sick fabulous. This means I got out of bed. I also attempted to brush my hair, but gave up due to lack of energy. So I’m calling it a mixed texture, low messy pony. Because I’m super sick and missed work all week thus far, I really don’t care too much what I look like, no ones going to see me under my covers and hell, let’s face it, my doctors office isn’t a runway loaded with designer labels, its red rudolph noses, not louis vuittons. So, I threw on black skinny leg jeans, black sneakers, a dark brown (most think its black) tank with gold flecks and a bolero inspired black cap sleeve shrug. I also went with purple imported earrings made of crushed shells, my diamond rings, and a diamond tennis bracelet, both in gold. I swear, It looks better than it sounds. As far as my make-up goes, its non existent today. My doctor doesn’t care if I look cute, she just wants to bill me, and write me a ridiculously expensive prescription that will make my shoe money match today’s make-up… nonexistent.

Okay, so I have the A’s and B’s (I didn’t think I would ever find the time to get the B’s done!) posted under “A Defining Moment” so make sure you keep checking it if fashion lingo eludes you.

Moving on… hottest hair! So for Spring 2014 we have mixed dos, such as sleek on top and then when your hair reaches behind your ear, mix it up, ringlets, waves, or even go a little messy (do as I say, not as I do. This isn’t an excuse to not brush, sorry!) if you dare! Plus the classic pony is still on top! This seasons pony is sleek and low, just brush, grab the hair when it meets your neck, pop on a ponytail holder and spray to hold that sleek look! Braids, keep them a little messy, have no fear and don’t fret the flyaways this year! Also, mermaid waves (loose waves), and really funky bobs are hot. Love shiny? I do! This spring shine is in, I personally love Its A 10 for a nice shine and Paul Mitchell oil for even more gloss. Speaking of preferences, I’m not a bob kinda gal, so if your like me you don’t jump for joy at the word. But wait, you have shorter hair? Though I have yet to confirm this, my prediction: high shine, side parts and sleek. Or maybe curls, think glamorous actresses from a time long gone. I can’t see reds being super hot but I do foresee blonde and brunette. I also know bows will rock! Large bows! Don’t worry about feeling like a little kid, with the right pairing, you CAN rock a bow!

So you have springs hottest hair, what’s next? Wardrobe! Ankle boots paired with cute little dresses, pastel business suits or bold and textured. Crisp white shirts, full knee or above length skirts with little jackets and open toe booties. Plus, if you hate your legs, you can opt for full, feminine, tea length dresses, and even wear sneakers! Please for my sake though, avoid following in Channels sneaker covered footsteps! I’m so not a fan of the new dresses with matching shoes, its an atrocity in my opinion. Not sure what they were thinking with that line, but for real, you can pair sneakers with dresses, just not theirs! Now, remember how we talked shine? Well, its not just for your hair! Your clothes and accessories may also have a gloss and be iridescent. This might come as shock but sweatshirts and jogging outfits are also in for the more sporty. Black and white will be in this season too, and you won’t look cheap wearing mesh. I’m also gonna bet that we will see some neon again this year, though I don’t think it will take over. But keep all this in mind if your uber fun and loved themed bashes, because when you host, go with decades! Why? Because a lot of this is repeating what we, or even our grandparents have already seen!

Now that you have an idea of what you’ll be clothed in, let’s talk accessories! Remember our shine theme, yeah its back again! We also have very ornate handbags with fringe and/or studs, and handbags in pastels or white and black. We have a slightly more squared tote/clutch theme this year and I think will see more mesh shopping bags as the green movement continues to carry on! Attention grabbing shades, and large gold necklaces, go wild with your jewelry, its all about being a little off beat. Go big with flowers, pastels and bright vibrant saturated colors. Can’t pick a bracelet? Consider wearing multiples! And please, keep texture in the mix!

Last but far from least, shoes… Whether metallic, pastel, vibrant, simple black, or nuterals are your thing, your in luck! Spring shoes will be very airy, so make sure you get rid of unsightly flaws prior to sporting your new look. Lots of heel, lots of straps, and lots of toe on display, as the weather gets a little warmer. Though sneakers won’t be super huge, and the craze all around, they can work! Ankle boots may also appeal to you if you prefer shorter skirts.

I think we have covered most of this springs hottest trends from head to toe! So before I bid you adieu, let’s recap a little. Shine, pastels, black and white, airy, and extravagant! Lastly keep in mind, at the end of the day, you need to be comfortable. Some people feel themselves in 4 inch heels, others can’t walk in 2 inch heels. Wear what you like, what YOU feel best in.

Coming Soon

Yay, my first post for the new blog. It has been years since I wrote, so I am pretty excited! I hope to have the first official post up by Wednesday, and get on a Wednesday/Sunday schedule.

The first blog will be about the letter A, and we will run through most letters of the alphabet in following blogs. In near future posts I will be defining terminology often associated with fashion, such as haute couture, hem, knit, kimono and so on.

I hope you find my blog to prove useful as it progresses and we get into the fun stuff, like who has the best deals on Zanotti, where you can find Gucci Flora, what swim suit suits you, and fabulous accessories to rock at work!
